These downloads are intended for established users, and contain the latest IBM fixes and Oracle updates to the Java SE application programming interfaces (APIs). To take advantage of new capabilities in the SDK, users are encouraged to move to the latest version.
Jdk 1.4.2 Download Windows
Download Zip: https://tinurli.com/2vAQzS
For Windows we have two lines. I could use the first (Offline Installation) which will yield a larger file to download but the resulting file can be installed also on machines without an Internet connection.
From the following screen please note that the SDK on top of the full development enviromnent which by default will get installed to c:\j2sdk1.4.2_03, will also install a JRE (runtime environment) which by defualt goes into your programs folder (in my case C:\Programmi) under a Java\jre1.4.2_03 directory.
Now dont' ask me why. The installation with the offline installer of version 1.4.2_02 will eat up 275MB of disk space. The install with the online version of the 1.4.2_03 will occupy only 80MB (plus the JRE). Simply accept all default values and take note of the place where the JDK and/or the JRE will be installed.
I want to point to my new 1.4.2_03 and therefore select JAVA_HOME and click on the Modify (Modifica) button and edit the field. In the next screenshot you can see that JAVA_HOME now points to 1.4.2_03.
Tomcat requires java in order to run. If your computer already has javainstalled, you can probably skip this step. However, make sure you have arecent version of java. Here I provide instructions for installing version1.4.2 of the Java 2 Platform, Standard Edition (J2SE).
Java 8 is not supported on Windows XP[185] but as of JDK 8 update 25, it can still be installed and run under Windows XP.[186] Previous updates of JDK 8 could be run under XP by downloading archived zip format file and unzipping it for the executable. The last version of Java 8 could run on XP is update 251.But its components compatibility starts to break on unsupported OS in early build during Java 8 updates development.[citation needed]
From October 2014, Java 8 was the default version to download (and then again the download replacing Java 9) from the official website.[187] "Oracle will continue to provide Public Updates and auto updates of Java SE 8, Indefinitely for Personal Users".[4]
Check to see if you have Java installed on your system by running the following commands:Windows:C:\> echo %JAVA_HOME%JAVA_HOME=C:\j2sdk1.4.2_04C:\> java -versionJava(TM) 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition (build 1.4.2_04-141.3)Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 1.4.2-38, mixed mode)Macintosh/Linux/Solaris:$ echo $JAVA_HOME/Library/Java/Home$ java -versionjava version "1.4.2_04"Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition (build 1.4.2_04-141.3)Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 1.4.2-38, mixed mode)$ Installing JavaIf Java is not installed, install the Java Run-Time Environment (JRE) or the Java Software Development Kit (SDK) from
You should also set the system path so as to include the Java commands Windows example: Append the string ";C:\j2sdk1.4.2_04\bin" (include the semicolon but not the quotes)to the end of the System variable named Path. Mac example: Not Necessary Linux example: export PATH=$PATH:$JAVA_HOME/bin/ In the UNIX operating systems, you typically modify a startup file like /.bash_login to set and export these shell variables. In Windows-XP, you go to Start -> Control Panel -> System -> Advanced -> Environment Variables -> New create or modify the named variable.

The DrScheme interpreter is available from the Scheme website for free download. DrScheme runs on Windows (95 and up), Mac OS, or Unix running the X Window System. DrScheme is useful given at least 128 MB of RAM. Installing DrScheme requires roughly 40 MB of disk space.
A local copy of the Windows installer (plt-208-bin-i386-win32.exe)is available. Installers for other systems (and the source files) can be found at the Scheme website. After downloading, run the installer program and a wizard will guide you through the installation process. When you first run the program, select "Standard (R5RS)" as the language.
Download the installer from the Sun web pages (java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.2/download.html). The Java 2 SDK can be installed and run on Windows 95/98/NT/W2000/XP and most Unix variants, including Linux and Sun/Solaris. Java 2 version 1.3 is included with Mac OS X, so you should be able to run the course software on OS X without having to install Java 2 first. Java 2 is not available for the classic Mac OS (OS 9 and earlier).
To install, double-click on the installer program, and then follow the instructions. The Windows installer itself is fairly small, but it will download large files before actually doing the installation.
Sun provides excellent documentation for all the class libraries that are part of the Java platform. I strongly recommend that you download and install the documentation. Unfortunately, the download file is also very large (31MB), but it is very useful to have the documentation at your finger tips while you are programming. The documentation is available from the same place you downloaded the JDK (java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.2/download.html#docs) in the form of a large zip file. Download it, and unzip it into the same directory where you installed Java itself. For example, I will unzip the documentation for J2SE 1.4.2 into C:\apps\jdk142. This will give you all the html files that describe the Java libraries. If you add a link in your browser bookmarks, then you can get the documentation for any library method with just a few clicks of the mouse.

It is essential that you verify the integrity of the downloaded files using the PGP and MD5 signatures. MD5 verification ensures the file was not corrupted during the download process. PGP verification ensures that the file came from a certain person.
The PGP signatures can be verified using PGP or GPG. First download the Apache Derby KEYS as well as the asc signature file for the particular distribution. It is important that you get these files from the ultimate trusted source - the main ASF distribution site, rather than from a mirror. Then verify the signatures using ...
To take full advantage of DrJava's features, you will need to have either the JDK 6.0 or the JDK 5.0 installed on your system. We highly recommend version 6.0, as it provides a number of additional APIs and GUI improvements. The J2SE v 1.4.2 SDK is no longer supported.
If you still cannot run DrJava, try downloading the "Jar File" rather than the "Windows App" from the DrJava home page and double clicking on it. If Windows asks you which program to use to open the file, select "javaw.exe" (which should be located in "C:\Program Files\Java\j2re...\bin\javaw.exe" or a similar folder).
If you get the following error message when running DrJava for the first time, your copy of DrJava is likely corrupted. Try downloading DrJava again, perhaps using the "more download options" link on our home page.
Williams College has developed a library known asObjectDrawwhich allows users to easily display and run Java Applets outside of a webbrowser. The ObjectDraw library can be downloaded as a Jar from cs134/eof/library/objectdraw.jar(You may need to right-click on the above link to choose the "Save LinkTarget As..." option in your web browser.) You can then add the objectdraw.jar file to DrJava's Extra Classpath option in the Preferences window to make it available within DrJava.
Note: If you are interested, you can download the source code for theclasses contained in the MBS jar files from (The source files are linked at the bottom of the page.)This is not necessary for using the simulation.
Java 1.3 and 1.4.2 are no longer supported, and DrJava is compiled to require Java 5 or later. However, you can use an older version of DrJava. drjava-stable-20040326 was the last stable release to support Java 1.3. drjava-stable-20080828-r4664 was the last stable release to support Java 1.4.2.
This is not a DrJava-specific problem. There is a known issue with JDK 1.4.1 and some video cards in Windows XP, likely caused by DirectX and an ATI Radeon video driver. For more information, see here. As a workaround, completely uninstall JDK 1.4.1 and install either JDK 1.4.0 or 1.4.2.
In JDK 1.4.1, many commands (such as creating a new document) cause the Definitions Pane to lose focus. This appears to be a bug in Sun's JDK 1.4.1, rather than in DrJava. As a workaround, install either JDK 1.4.2 or JDK 1.4.0.
Before Java 5.0 was released, DrJava provided support for Sun's prototype compiler that supported generics, known as JSR-14. This support is no longer available in DrJava, but you can download an older version (such as drjava-stable-20040326) if it is needed.
To use JSR-14 in DrJava, you will first need to download it from Sun's Java Developer Connection site. (Note that this requires creating a free user account.) Once you have downloaded the package, open the older DrJava application, select the Preferences window (from the Edit menu) and specify the locations of the JSR-14 versions of javac.jar and collect.jar, which were included in the package you downloaded. JSR-14 should now appear in the list of available compilers on the Compiler Output tab. 2ff7e9595c
